Turn on your receiver and TV. Check the signal strength of each
satellite. You should be locked onto the correct satellite(s) and have
good usable signal strength. Due to many variables (including magnetic
interference or inaccurate pointing information), you may have a signal
that is not at maximum strength. If necessary or desirable, fine tune
the signal for maximum strength.
If you are using a dual or multi-satellite dish, you will need to adjust
the tilt / skew setting at this time. Loosen the necessary screws and
simultaneously adjust your dish to the elevation, azimuth and skew /
tilt by moving the dish until your Align-A-Site's gauges are aligned (
the red needle of the compass will be lined up with the stationary red
arrow at the bottom of the compass vial and the unit will show level).
If you will be using your RV rooftop mounted satellite dish, park your
RV so that your dish is as close as possible to the spot you marked in
the step above. If you will be using a portable satellite dish, place
your dish in this spot. If you did not purchase the optional dish
attachment unit, set up your dish in the conventional manner following
the manufacturers instructions that came with your dish.
If you purchased the dish mount attachment, place the sighting unit in
the dish mount and lock it in place with the locking screw. Ensure that
the tilt / skew setting is at 90 degrees and the azimuth and elevation
are still set correctly. Look through the sighting unit to verify that
the dish still has a clear line of sight. If you are using a single LNB
dish, proceed to step 6.
Set the Align-A-Site's azimuth and elevation settings. Be SURE the tilt
/ skew setting is at 90 degrees at this time for the pre-sighting
function. — You will adjust the tilt / skew settings later when you
align your dish.
Look through the unit and scout your area for a suitable location that
has a clear line of sight. Remember that the clearer your line of sight,
the stronger the signal that you will be able to receive! Mark the spot
that you have chosen.
These settings can be obtained from your satellite dish receiver under
the “menu’ and “dish pointing” option. Note that your TV display may be
different than that shown due to various manufacturer’s equipment. If
you have a single LNB dish, you will only need the elevation and azimuth
information. If you have a dual LNB or a multi-satellite dish, you will
also need the tilt / skew information.
